Your class lectures are held on Zoom, and the easiest way to join is right from your course in Canvas. This article walks you through getting set up and joining your lecture.
Before You Begin
We recommend downloading the Zoom app to your device before your first lecture. The app gives you the most reliable connection, better audio and video, and full access to Zoom's features.
- Windows or Mac: Download Zoom Workplace from zoom.us/download
- iPhone or iPad: Download Zoom Workplace from the Apple App Store
- Android: Download Zoom Workplace from the Google Play Store
Note: Instructor approval is required to use Zoom on mobile devices.
Once it's installed, open it once to make sure it runs, then you're ready to go.
Important: Signing in to Zoom with the Microsoft sign-in option does not work for your school account. Skip that option and register your account using your personal email address or student email address.
Join Your Lecture from Canvas
- Log in to Canvas using your school email and password.
-
Open your course from the Dashboard or from Courses in the left menu.
-
Click Zoom in the course navigation menu on the left side of the page.
-
Under Meetings, find your lecture and click Join.
- If your browser asks to open Zoom, click Open Zoom Workplace (or Open link). The lecture will open in the Zoom app.
- When prompted, click Join with Computer Audio so you can hear your instructor and speak when needed.
Tip: If you see a message saying the host hasn't started the meeting yet, stay on that screen. You'll be let in automatically once your instructor starts the lecture.
