If a course is missing from your Canvas Dashboard, one of the reasons below is usually the cause. Most of the time, the course will appear on its own once it's ready.
1. The course hasn't been published yet
Instructors publish their courses when they're ready for students. Until then, you won't be able to open the course.
Next step: Check back closer to the first day of class. If class has already started and you still can't access it, reach out to your instructor.
2. The course hasn't started yet
If you open a course before its start date, you may see this message at the top of the page:
"This course hasn't started yet. You will not be able to participate in this course until [start date]."
This means the course is in view-only mode. You can look around, but you can't submit assignments, take quizzes, or post in discussions until the date shown in the message.
Good to know: Everything unlocks automatically on the start date, so there's nothing you need to do. Before then, the course may also show under Future Enrollments in your All Courses list.
3. The course isn't on your Dashboard
Your Dashboard only shows active courses and courses that are marked as favorites.
Quick fix: Check your All Courses list using the steps below and click the star next to the course to add it to your Dashboard.
4. The course has ended
Once a course's term ends, it moves to Past Enrollments. You may still be able to view the course, but you won't be able to submit work.
Where to look: Check the Past Enrollments section of your All Courses list.
Note: General Education courses can’t be viewed after the course ends. If you need something from a past General Education course, please contact your instructor.
How to Check Your All Courses List
1. Click "Courses"
In the left navigation menu in Canvas, click Courses.
2. Click "All Courses"
At the bottom of the Courses panel, click All Courses.
3. Find your course
Look through the Current Enrollments, Future Enrollments, and Past Enrollments sections. If the course is current, click the star next to it to add it to your Dashboard.
