So it looks like your screen sharing isn’t working properly. Not to worry, follow these steps to get it back up and running so you can take your exam.
Important Note: You have to actually click on the picture of your screen within the pop-up window even if you are only using one screen. The Share button will be disabled until you click on the screen you want to share.
Once you have completed your exam, your screen will automatically stop sharing.
The pop-up window might be hidden behind your browser. To locate it:
- Minimize the browser and locate the screen share popup in the background.
- Windows OS - use ALT+TAB to find the popup or to mouse over Chrome in the taskbar to reveal the screen share popup.
- Mac OS - use F3, or right-click Chrome in the Launch bar and then click "Show all windows".
After you share your screen click the retest button and continue with the pre-checks.
For macOS 10.15 and newer:
Due to the system update follow the steps below:
- Click the Apple icon in the top left corner of your screen.
- Go to System Preferences.
- Select Security and Privacy.
- Click the Privacy tab
- In the left bar list, scroll down to the Screen Recording menu.
- Check the box next to Google Chrome. You may first need to click the lock in the bottom-left corner to make changes to your settings.
- If Google Chrome is already checked please follow the steps below *
- If you don't Google Chrome is not listed in the right-hand menu you can add it by:
- Click the Padlock and enter your password
- Select Plus + and choose Google Chrome from the Applications menu
- Select Quit and Reopen.
If you still do not see the Google Chrome option under Screen Recording please try the following to reset permissions:
- Open Finder
- Click Go
- Select Computer or ( ⌘ + ⇧+ C )
- Click Macintosh HD
- Select Users
- Right-click the User (you)
- Get Info
- Click Sharing & Permissions
- Under the Name change Privilege to Read and Write
*IMPORTANT - This is not Proctorio related but Google Chrome and macOS updates/options related issue. You will have to follow these steps every time you want to use screen sharing or screen recording on Google Chrome using macOS devices.
If you are not able to share your screen due to the error below
follow the steps:
- Click the Apple icon in the top left corner of your screen.
- Go to System Preferences
- Select Security and Privacy.
- Click the Privacy tab.
- In the left bar list, scroll down to the Screen Recording menu and UNCHECK Google Chrome
- Select Quit and Reopen.
- Reopen the Google Chrome browser.
- Click the Apple icon in the top left corner of your screen.
- Go to System Preferences.
- In the Privacy tab scroll down to the Screen Recording menu and CHECK Google Chrome.
- Select Quit and Reopen.
- Reopen the Google Chrome browser and start your exam.
For Ventura 13.1:
Due to the system update follow the steps below:
- Apple icon
- System Settings
- Privacy and Security.
- In the Privacy section choose Screen Recording.
- Toggle the slide from left to right next to Google Chrome.
- Quit and Reopen
- If Google Chrome is not listed use the plus icon ( + ) to add Google Chrome from Applications.
