If your exam administrator enabled this option you may be asked to share your screen during the System Diagnostics Test. The “Share” button will be disabled until you click on the screen you want to share.
Once you have completed your exam, your screen will automatically stop sharing.
The pop-up window might be hidden behind your browser. To locate it:
- You can minimize the browser and find the screen share popup in the background.
- Windows OS - use ALT+TAB to find the popup or to mouse over Chrome in the taskbar to reveal the screen share popup.
- Mac OS - use F3, or right-click Chrome in the Launch bar and then click "Show all windows".
After you locate the popup and share your screen click the retest button and continue with the pre-checks.
When the screen is being recorded, a small dialog box appears at the bottom of the browser window.
Do not click STOP or STOP SHARING since it will stop screen sharing and you will have to reload your page and restart the prechecks.
Nevertheless, the dialog box can be hidden at any time by selecting X in the top right corner or the HIDE option.
If the steps above don't help, check your browser version:
1. Google Chrome
- Click the three-dot icon in the top right corner of the Google Chrome browser
- Navigating to Help
- Select About Google Chrome
- Confirm the version of the browser you're running and update it if necessary.
- Check if canary, beta, or dev is listed:
If you have one of these labels, you are using an unstable version of the browser that is designed for Chrome to test its newest features with a limited set of users. These versions (called "channels") do not consistently support Desktop Capture. If this applies to you, try the following steps:- Uninstall Chrome.
- Empty your Trash or Recycle Bin
- Install the main version of Chrome (called the "stable channel"). This page always links to the stable channel.
- Reinstall the Proctorio extension and attempt to enter your exam.
If you are receiving this error while using the stable Chrome channel, this may be a system limitation due to your display settings. Try the following operating-system-specific troubleshooting steps.
