Register your Microsoft 365 Student Account – Smith Chason

Are you a new Smith Chason College student?
If you are an incoming student, you will receive your Smith Chason student login credentials as your term start date gets closer.

You do not need to request them. Watch your email and use this guide to get ready for day one.

1. When You'll Get Your Login

Your Smith Chason login is created and sent to you close to your term start date. Until then, you won’t be able to sign in to Canvas, Microsoft 365, or other college apps. This is normal, and your account is on its way.

Your login will be sent to the personal email address you used when you enrolled. Look for an email with this subject line:

If you don’t see it in your inbox, check your spam or junk folder.

2. What Your Login Opens

You get one school email address and one password. That single login works for everything the college uses:

Canvas

Your courses, assignments, grades, and announcements from your instructors.

Microsoft 365

Your school email in Outlook, plus the web versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneDrive.

Other college apps use the same sign-in, so once you know your school email and password, you're set everywhere.

3. Your First Sign-In

Download the Microsoft Authenticator app now if you don’t have it yet:

iPhone or iPad: Apple App Store
Android: Google Play Store

Install the free Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone before your first sign-in.
On your computer, go to office.com and sign in with the school email and temporary password from your credentials email.
Microsoft will ask you to create your own password. Enter the temporary password once more, then type your new password twice and click Sign in. Save your new password somewhere safe, since you’ll use it for every college app.

Once that’s done, sign in to Canvas using your school email and new password.

4. Get Your Device Ready

You’ll need a computer for class. You can use your own or purchase a laptop through the school. If you’re using your own, make sure it meets the requirements before your term starts:

Chromebooks are not allowed. They can’t run the software some of your courses and exams require.
Windows 10 computers do not meet the requirements. Upgrade to Windows 11 or use a supported Mac.

5. Keep Your Account Secure

Never share your password or your Authenticator number with anyone.
Students can't reset their own password or MFA. If you get locked out, IT handles the reset for you through a support request.
When you contact IT, send your email from the same address you used to register in Orbund. This lets us verify your identity right away so we can resolve your request faster.

6. Troubleshooting & Common Issues

I still haven't received my login credentials.

Check your spam or junk folder first. If it isn't there, email support@smithchason.edu from the address you used to register in Orbund.

I tried to sign in early and it says my account doesn't exist.

Your account hasn't been created yet. Wait for your log in credentials email, then try again with the school email it gives you.

I'm signing in with my personal email and it won't work.

Student apps only accept your Smith Chason school email. If you're signed in to a personal Microsoft account in your browser, sign out first, then sign in with your school email.

I forgot my password or lost access to Authenticator.

IT has to reset these for you.

I can sign in, but I don't see my courses in Canvas.
