To ensure success in your courses at Smith Chason College, you must have a computer that meets the following specifications. Following these recommendations will help ensure a smooth, reliable, and uninterrupted academic experience from enrollment to graduation at Smith Chason College. Failure to meet these requirements may result in technical difficulties and hinder academic progress.
Computer/Laptop Requirements
Supported Operating Systems
- Windows: Windows11, version 22H2 or later. (Windows 10 is no longer supported)

- MacBook Air/Pro released within the last 4 years.
Minimum Hardware Specifications

Processor:
- Intel i5 (10th generation or newer) with a base clock of 2.5 GHz and boost up 4.3 Ghz, or
- Apple M1 chip or newer
- Memory (RAM): 8GB or more
- Storage: At least 120GB of free space
- Webcam & Microphone: Built-in or external
- Speakers: Required for desktops (built-in speakers are acceptable for laptops)

Internet: High-speed (50 Mbps or higher)
- Wired connection preferred; strong Wi-Fi accepted
- Browser: Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge
Unsupported Devices
The following devices cannot be used for coursework:
- Chromebooks
- Tablets (e.g., iPads, Android tablets)
- Cell phones
Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) Requirements
To access student platforms such as Microsoft 365 and Instructure Canvas, students must enroll in MFA upon their first login. Two authentication methods must be set up:
Primary Method

Microsoft Authenticator App
- Required to register a mobile device or tablet for passwordless sign-in or push notifications
Alternative Method

Voice Call (Mobile Only)
- A verification code will be delivered via vice call to a mobile number
- Landlines are not supported
